Honda is Japan’s second-largest automaker and the largest producer of internal combustion engine vehicles in the world. Its vehicle line-up includes sedans, hatchbacks, performance cars, SUVs, a minivan and a pickup truck. Insurance on Honda vehicles can therefore vary widely based on body style,  trim level, model year, powertrain, where the vehicle is kept, how often it is stolen and many other factors. A driver’s history, location, and age can also influence a quote for a Civic, CR-V or Accord.

This guide uses MyChoice internal quote data to examine Honda insurance premiums in Ontario. It also compares quotes across cities, estimates the difference between new and used vehicles and places Honda beside other mainstream brands. By using this data, drivers can assess collision, comprehensive, rental transportation, deductibles and depreciation protection for a Honda vehicle.

Honda Insurance Costs Across Popular Models

Honda’s $2,303 median annual Ontario insurance premium is 2% below the $2,345 all-vehicle benchmark. A look at the range of median quotes for the Civic demonstrates how wide the gap can be. It costs about $1,658 annually to insure an older Civic LX-SR coupe and $3,972 for a top-trim Touring sedan. This $2,314 spread shows that the specifics of the vehicle and the driver matter more for insurance quoting than generic figures covering the brand or model..

Is a Used Honda Cheaper to Insure in Ontario?

Yes. Insuring a new Honda is more expensive in our data: $2,372 a year versus $2,209 for a used one. The $163 gap comes from a broad age adjustment, not the same Honda model at two ages. Review vehicle value, financing, deductibles and any depreciation-waiver terms before choosing coverage.

Honda Insurance Questions by Model and Coverage

How do Civic and CR-V insurance figures compare in Ontario?

While MyChoice’s internal quote data doesn’t provide a blanket median for either nameplate, city and model figures provide some guidance. For example, Civic quotes span from $1,423 for a 2015 Civic LX in Sarnia to $3,562 for a 2026 Civic Sport in London. CR-V records range from $1,953 for a 2017 CR-V Touring AWD in Waterloo to $3,969 for a 2018 CR-V LX AWD in Brampton. These are comparison points rather than guaranteed quotes for either vehicle.

How safe and reliable are Honda vehicles?

J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study lists Honda’s reliability as slightly below the industry average. The 2027 Honda HR-V and 2026 Honda Passport are rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as Top Safety Pick+ vehicles, and several more models are Top Safety Picks including the 2026 Honda Civic, 2026 Honda Accord, and 2026 Honda Pilot. Honda vehicles have included a long list of modern safety and driver assistance technology as standard for the past few years.

Methodology

Sample Size

We analyzed over 50,000 auto insurance quotes across Canada.

Profiles

Average rates were calculated using a standard profile and incident profiles. All personal details pertaining to the quotes and policies have been kept confidential.

Standard Profile

Single driver, one car, currently insured, and a pristine driving record. Our base profile is a 35-year-old individual (both male and female) with a spotless driving record.

Incident Profiles

We examined how rates change by evaluating profiles with a clean record (standard), one at-fault accident, a single speeding ticket, license suspension for alcohol related offenses and insurance cancellation due to non-payment.

Age and Homeownership

Profiles from age 18-65 (standard: 35 years) were considered. Depending on age, individuals might rent or own their homes. Age-related regulations may vary across provinces.
